Toughened glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Advantages and benefits of toughened glass: if the glass is exposed to any stress or breakages, when broken it will break into small, relatively harmless pieces, instead of into jagged shards as annealed glass can create.

Non Toughened Glass
As a result of its safety and strength toughened glass can be and is used in a variety of demanding applications. As it also comes in different thicknesses of glass from 4-19mm toughened, its job is to be able to withstand a great deal of stress and weight depending on its thickness.
Example of toughened glass uses
Toughened glass is made from annealed glass via a thermal tempering process. The glass is placed onto a roller table, taking it through a furnace which heats it above its transition temperature of 564Âșc. The glass is then quenched and rapidly cooled with forced air.
Redituff Ltd have a dedicated toughening line, with a top of the range Cool Temper Jet Stream Convection Furnace, with a Forel IG Line, enabling the manufacture of over 10,000 pieces of toughened glass per week and over 5000 double glazed units per week Toughened glass is available in different thicknesses and a variety of glass types, please contact our sales office for further information on 01744-759039 or complete our online enquiry form
